Flat Classrooms

Transforming learning through global collaboration

Hi

I am a HSIE teacher at Nyngan High School, which is located nearly in the dead centre of the state of New South Wales, Australia.

This is our last week of this term and we start back on the 19th October. I would love to connect with 2 or 3 other schools somewhere else in the world or Australia so that my Year 7 kids (12 & 13 years old) can experience someone elses life. These kids do not travel much and have a very limited view of the world out there. i would love to be able to expand their horizons. Is there anyone willing to connect with us? Out term ends on the 18 December for this year.

I would love to connect with you. I am a technology teacher right outside of NYC and the students really do not get out of this area that much either. I think that it is important for students of this age to realize that the world goes on when your not the center of it. Lets try to think of a project to do over the next few weeks. Something simple and easy to manage. Please e-mail me liz.gallo26@gmail.com
Thank you

This sounds very interesting. I am VERY new to Flat classroom and this would be a first for both myself and my students. We are in Florida and our school is a small Catholic school. My classes are the 12-14 year olds. I also have a high school class as well, which range in age from 14-17 years. What would be the first steps to take?

My email is mrskuruzovich@gmail.com

Hello! I teach in a small school in Medora, a town in southwest North Dakota, USA. There are 20 students in our school, kindergarten through grade 8. I am the math and history specialist grades three through eight, and also teach literature, health, composition, grammar, computer skills, spelling, and vocabulary to grades 6, 7, and 8. My students are age 11 to 14, and they would love to connect with you. We tried last year through e-Pals, but had very limited success. We have access to IVN equipment, webcams, etc, with a fully-equipped computer lab. We could exchange emails, environment boxes, work on a project together . . . , what ever you might have in mind.

Just wondering if you are receiving my emails as it has been very quiet for the last few days?

Helen, I sent you an email a few days ago...wondering if you received it...I will post it below just in case it didn't go through.

email message:
Sorry I haven't been in touch. I had report cards to get ready and they just went out today. I spoke with our headmaster and he is very supportive of this program, so we are on board!

We do not have video conferencing in our school. The best I have right now is one computer with a mini cam on it. We do have about 8 computers in the class, with a few of the students who have their own laptop. As I mentioned in an earlier email, we just got some digital cameras for the students to use. So we will begin planning for our videos.

Let me tell you about our school. We are a very small private Catholic school, with approximately 75 students from ages 5-18, which is kindergarten through 12th grade. One of the classes I teach are 7th & 8th graders who are 12-14 years old. There are 22 students, 6 with special needs. We have several attendance options for students. One is the traditional 5 day program, where students attend 5 days a week, Monday - Friday. The other option is 3 day. Students attend only Tues., Wed., and Thurs. Quite a few homeschool families choose this option. We do all our electives on Monday (Art, Music, Band, Yearbook, Journalism, etc...) Each Friday is a 1/2 day, which is loved by all!

I'll be working on my students getting their emails (or using their parents' email) for the wiki. When my students meet on Tuesday, I will introduce the project to them, divide up the groups and begin the planning. I will keep you posted!

Hi Purti, That sounds great! I know the festival of "Makar Sankranti" is coming soon and we are very excited to learn about it. Will it be possible for you to take pictures or videos of the kites flying, and also some pictures of your students with…

I guess the pertinent thing is to discuss at the beginning of the year. If the enthusiasm exists there must be possibilities.
