Transforming learning through global collaboration

Media Literacy High school collaborators needed

I am starting a new media class this year and will have 12-15 students. We would like to connect to begin with media literacy. We plan to use some of the media literacy lessons on PBS website and some other sources (any ideas welcome), but would like to connect across continents to see how media literacy is viewed in other places compared to the US. Ideas: advertisement, politics, propaganda, etc.... Would even like to consider creating a collaborative high school online global newspaper with this class. Please respond if you are interested. I have a Ning that would be a great platform for us and also some media literacy hypermedia projects in the process of development for the fall. Michelle Alexander m_alexana@yahoo.com

Hi! I just joined today so this may be a little late, but I'm practically a neighbor teaching up in Raleigh, NC. I previously taught in Boston about ten years ago where I had designed a media literacy curriculum, so your post caught my eye.

This year I'm teaching a combined class of yearbook & newspaper and would love to look at some collaborative options for spring!

Michelle, sounds like a great project idea! I am sure we could provide an interesting perspective from here in China. I am starting a new unit of work with my grade 10 CT class in January with a focus on citizen journalism. Not sure how close that aligns with your ideas....but we could talk some more about making connections and learning from each other.
Let's connect in the new year! Happy holidays!

I think this video is very important to all of the schools and teachers you know. It is a video from a conference.

Hi Purti, That sounds great! I know the festival of "Makar Sankranti" is coming soon and we are very excited to learn about it. Will it be possible for you to take pictures or videos of the kites flying, and also some pictures of your students with…

I guess the pertinent thing is to discuss at the beginning of the year. If the enthusiasm exists there must be possibilities.
