I've had a play with Google Lively, and clearly the potential is huge, but it there any alternative where you can control who can access your 'world'? I'd feel uncomfortable directing our girls anywhere that wasn't a 'walled garden'.

Turn off the feature that lists in the public directory and then put the link in a private space where only you see it - - no one else can get there unless you share the link. That is what we did and no one else has come into the room.
