Transforming learning through global collaboration
As part of the Flat Classroom® Project 2012-5, we will hold Student Summits in our Blackboard Collaborate virtual classroom. We will invite outside participants to join the summits. During a 45-60 minute student summit, each student has two to three minutes to discuss his or her involvement, challenges, and achievements during the project.
The Flat Classroom® Projects are primarily asynchronous projects. This culminating synchronous piece provides students from two or three classrooms the opportunity to celebrate and highlight individual research, findings, and critical reflections, experienced throughout the project.
Students each prepare one PowerPoint slide that describes his or her communications, collaborations, and creations during the project. The focus is on the students, digital citizenship, and online learning skills, which students have developed as part of their cultural exchanges.
Summits provide an opportunity for students to talk about their work during the project, their collaboration with their team, and their topic. They also provide a virtual learning experience and real-time interaction with an international audience on a professional level. In other words, they flatten the walls of the classroom by inviting the world in and providing a platform for students to present and share their knowledge and to learn valuable digital citizenship lessons.
This page -> Student Summit Instructions describes a summit in more detail. The link is available to you and students from the navigation bar in the project wiki. I plan to embed student summit examples on this page shortly for you and your students to review.
Student Summit Action Points:
Please do not worry about running the session. I will facilitate your session. Do ensure students make one PowerPoint slide each and save it as a .jpg If you are at all unsure, please review the meeting recording from Digiteen 12-2 Meeting 9 November 20, 2012 OR ask someone who has done the project before.
Student Summit dates and times are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please schedule early. I look forward to working with all of you in this celebration of student work.

Lisa I saw your post about this Friday but can't find it here on the Ning. Kelly, Sandy and I are doing a meetup at that time. We can use the Digiteen room.
