Hello,

I just joined FC the other day and yesterday I listened to the Barbara and Eva's presentation on their plan for this year.  While I had a little trouble with the audio, it sounds like you have come up with a manageable yet flexible project for your classes that will build on the strengths of each.  

I may be contacting you for more information about your project but in any case, I do hope you keep the "Teacher Educators" group informed of your journey!  Thanks for sharing your start-up ideas.

Hi Barbara,

The conference is on professional development schools, not flat classroom. However, I could pull away from the conference to talk flat classroom. Will you be close to New Orleans?

Julie,

The trip has been created as a service learning/cultural experience for preservice teachers. We will be volunteering in classrooms there. Most of my preservice teachers will be teaching some lessons. However, as I read more about the flat classroom, I'm wondering if I can build relationships, create projects, etc. that are based on flat classroom principles/goals. I would appreciate any ideas.

Hello,

I also teach preservice teachers. I look forward to collaborating with all of you. I would appreciate all of your ideas for employing the flat classroom pedagogy to an overseas experience. I plan to take preservice teachers to Guatemala for two weeks (we are in the USA), and I wonder how I can use this experience to deepen the learning on the flat classroom. Thanks in advance.

Very true on the low numbers of mentors also engaged in Internet projects - which is what I am trying to change (one classroom at a time). I am finding that the new mentors that when the mentor teachers get on board with project, the school principal begins to realize that something new and interesting is happening in school. Terry, Thanks for sharing your experience, ideas and project link. We have used Vicki and Julie's book,Flattening Classrooms, Engaging Minds, as our text this term. It is an essential resource for all teacher educators and provides preservice teachers with required skills to enter the classroom. This text includes a Challenge for students to create a project as well. I do agree that it is important for mentor teachers to have PSTs join projects while on practicum, however, my experience and research is that there are precious few mentor teachers engaging in global collaboration even at base/beginning levels. I am always excited to hear about global projects in which teachers are engaging their classrooms/students and really appreciate you sharing the Monster Project.
