Celebration and Summation

We have just recently finished the 12-1 FCCT Global Design Project and the pitches. It reminded me that there are several things I need to wrap up. It is so important to end a project in the right way - to tie up loose ends and reflect on practices. I feel it is also essential to celebrate the work and effort that has gone into any project.I have not yet had the opportunity to participate in a summit (excepting the GDP pitches). This being said, I have completed several projects this semester…See More

Giving Students Choice

My student leadership class is equivalent to a Student Council. We use leadership, event planning, technology, and business course standards to have an interdisciplinary class. My students recently finished their first big project. We did some earlier planning and events, but this was different: each group (2-5 students) had to plan and run an event for our school... and they had to choose what type of event and how to run it. I gave my students the required outcomes of this task: 1) they had…See More

Collaborate on a Wiki

For the second semester, I have brought in a wiki for my student leadership course. I saw another teacher in my school using a wiki in her English course, and when I saw what was happening, I had to try it too! It begins by introducing what a wiki is. I was not surprised this year that many of my students had no idea what a wiki was or what they could be used for. We did a KWL chart (what I Know, what I Want to know, and what I Learned), and the "K" columns were mostly blank. We discussed a…

Digital Citizenship

During the past week I have spent time thinking on the topic of what it means to be a digital citizen, and how I can help my students on their journey to becoming a digital citizen. I have come to realize that the first step to helping my students become digital citizens is to check in with what they are saying online.

A Classroom monitoring portal (CMP) is a great way to keep track of what students are doing during an online project. At this moment in time, I do not have a class…
