I am an instructional designer at a community college in Illinois. I am a former HS physics/math teacher who is very interested in the best practices for professional development and supporting teachers integrating tech into curriculum.
That is pretty close to what I would have thought an instructional designer does. I have been teaching via traditional methods like PowerPoints, iMovies, "eal blackboards and whiteboards" for some time now. I teach almost nothing but Uppwer School seniors in biology electives (neurophysiology, neuropsychology, forensics and animals behavior). Do you have a suggestions for how I could get my foot in the water? How I can make that first simple step to connect my students with others in other places? I would like to start simple, I want to remain "whelmed" not become overwhelmed? Where does a traditional guy get started in this technological age?
