I am the librarian at McKelvey Elementary which is a K - 5 school in St. Louis, MO. I was a music teacher for 10 years and then switched into library, because I love kids literature and technology.
I am still a newbie to a lot of the technology tools and this whole concept, but I'm very interested in the idea of seeing some of the Web 2.0 ideas used in an elementary setting as well. Please note, I am in the process of forming a library website at this address and starting a blog at edublogs.

Hi Kim, nice to meet you. I am playing on a korg sampling grand piano circa 1980's but I still think it rocks for live situations. I am also playing a Hammond xb2 which I am running through a leslie. I play in several different bands, you can listen to some stuff at www.spectrumhornband.com Do you preform live?Would like to hear anthing you have done if it is out there.
On the professional side am trying to integrate and learn as much as I can.
Hi Kim I'm afraid our Grade 4 teachers don't feel ready for our collaborative project yet - they're keen to do it, but later in the year. I'll contact you again to see if you are able to fit it in at that stage. Sorry to have jumped the gun!
Hello Kim
I've added a comment to Nerine's page regarding joining Lisa Parisi's classroom book talk wiki. This seems like a good place to start with my students; especially since I am new to this also.
Your idea about an October project sounds great. I don't know if I'll be ready by that time since our students have no experience with these tools and our collaborative learning curve seems quite steep right now!
So...I'm going to try Lisa's wiki and see where we can go from there. These really are baby steps aren't they?
I hope you are having a great start to the school year. Keep in touch about your collaborative projects.
Hi Kim
We begin school on Sunday, and I have been thinking about how best we can work together. I looked at Lisa Parisi's wiki
http://classroombooktalk.wikispaces.com/
and wondered whether we should join that instead of starting something new. I have written to ask her how she feels, and will come back to you when she responds.
I hope this is the start of a very good year for you.
Hi Kim,
Welcome and look forward to reading comments and suggestions on E-books as I teach Special Education and would like to add you as a colleague.
Enjoy,
Mark
Hi Kim
Your suggestions sound great. I'll get going with experimenting with Voice Thread! Our student population is predominantly Arabic, but we are an English medium school, so language won't be too much of an obstacle, though some students who speak English only at school, and speak Arabic the rest of the time, will be reading easier English books. We also have international students so the range is wide. Our time zone is UTC +3, and yours is UTC -5, so synchronous contact with students won't work - but as you suggest video introductions are a good option - another learning curve for me!
During the month of September, it is Ramadan, and as our school is predominantly Muslim, we have a shorter working day, so it will take time to get into a project. However I am very keen to begin planning etc. October is International School Library month, with the theme Literacy and Learning at your school library
http://www.iasl-online.org/events/islm/
so that might be a place to start?
I work with students from Grades 2 - 5, and there are 5 classes in each grade, 22 students per class. Is there any age group that you would prefer to work with? You can contact me on njchalmers@gmail.com if you would prefer.
Hi!
Our principal had mailed you earlier. This assignment sounds very interesting i think it would be a good start by reading stories.I think my children would love it.
