Interest in Flat Classrooms
I am interested in just getting started. In making a simple first step out of traditional teaching to the use of technology to enhance effectiveness not just for the sack of using it.

I just saw this article. I'm not sure if this program would apply to your curriculum, but I thought I'd pass it along.

Hi Michael,

It seems to me that you have already started by being a member of this ning! (And, is using iMovie traditional already. I thought it was still new!)

I would suggest joining the Global Education Collaborative ning.

I think you could make some good connections there and maybe find someone who wants to collaborate on a science project with your class.

I was an AP Physics/Physics/Math teacher for six years before doing what I'm doing now, and after this past year of learning about web 2.0 tools, I can't wait to teach again. I think I'd start by finding another AP Physics teacher maybe in an international school somewhere or in a neighboring school. We could partner our classes for a joint science lab where students could share data and analyze together. Or maybe I'd just start with creating a classroom ning and inviting another physics class to join and blog (reflect) about curriculum we are studying.

I like your phrase....be 'whelmed' not overwhelmed. That is a great goal. And, I also LOVE that you want to use technology to enhance learning and NOT just to use it. That attitude has given me just enough skepticism to really make the technology work for learning....or I don't use it.

Have you heard of ICE (Illinois Computing Educators).
http://www.iceberg.org/
They have a conference in February. I went last year for the first time and it was a fantastic experience. I met a lot of people and learned a lot about what people are doing with tech. They also have local chapters that host local events, so check if they are doing anything in your area.

I hope that gives you a place to start that is just 'whelming'. Good luck!! Keep me posted. (I miss teaching!!)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instructional_design
Instructional design is a basically designing instruction. The instructional design model is basically what every teacher does to design a lesson. ADDIE is a commonly used model (Analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate). My actual job responsibilities include helping faculty integrate technology into their teaching, both online and face to face. I also help support our learning management system (Blackboard). I also help design learning modules to be used for online instruction. Does that answer your question...sort of? It can be hard to define instructional design...and many people have different definitions.

What is a recovering attorney? :)
