- I've been teaching for 21 years (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th/6th math, and Elementary Technology Facilitator) and am currently a 2nd grade teacher (my *FAVORITE* grade!). I also teach graduate courses online in Ed Tech, Cyberbullying (wrote the course), Mathematics, and Children's Literature. I present at state, national, and virtual (Second Life) conferences on Ed Tech topics. I'm a Google Certified Teacher, DEN (Discovery Educator Network) STAR Education, a DEN Guru in Visual Literacy, a Livescribe Ambassador, and am Symbaloo Certified.
On a personal note I grew up an 'Army brat' (and proud of it) in Europe. My father is German and my mother is French (as am I). I've traveled extensively and hope to visit Thailand and China in the near future. My husband is retired and travels for pleasure (in fact, he just returned from 5 weeks in India, Burma, and Thailand) he plans to visit Chile next year. My daughter has also been bitten by the travel bug (she's been traveling overseas since she's been 5 months old) and just met up with her dad in India. When I find the time I enjoy hand crafty activities such as knitting and beading. I also am adamant that I will conquer my fear of my DSLR this year and shoot some amazing images in something other than Auto mode! LOL
- Interest in Flat Classrooms
- ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Anything I can do to break down the walls in my classroom and expose my students to the world beyond our little town and I'm in! Most of my students have not traveled beyond the nearest large town which is 45 minutes away. I want (need) them to understand that even though we might be different, there is so much of us that is the same and that the world is an AMAZING and EXCITING place and making contact with others can be a life altering event. But I want them involved in something that is more than just skimming the surface, I want us to be able to dig deep and I want them to own their learning and the path that they take to get there.

My favorite app/website of the month is TRIPLINE, which we actually used with our little ones this week to outline "an airplane" path across the globe/map to plan an imaginary visit to all our new friends within our group.
